Fremming is a type of stepped counter-flashing installed on gables (sloped eaves) to keep roofing material from blowing off the edges of the roof and with a kick to shed water away from the fascia. It is superior to continuous metal drip edge installed under the roofing because in that case the shingle-edge extends past the roof and catches the wind. A frem is an individual piece of flashing holding down the leading edge of each course of roofing material.
